TORONTO – On a quiet midtown street after dusk, a Christmas scene right out of a children’s storybook unfolds in front of a two-storey brick home.

Carollers dressed in velvety robes and top hats sing seasonal tunes on the lawn while neighbourhood residents gather to celebrate the coming holiday, eating foil-wrapped chocolate and drinking hot cocoa dispensed by cheerful hosts.
